About the artist
The blue Indigenous figure depicted in this work is one of the creative signatures of the artist named Cranio, and is the main character in his vibrant world. This world is full of references to contemporary issues, born from the imagination of this São Paulo street artist.
In the work "2020: The End of the Beginning", Crânio highlights the irreverence of this blue personage, and here he appears in the realm of the Amazon rainforest. The figure is at risk of the Corvid-19 virus even though he is living far from “civilization”. The mask is necessary for him to be protected from the modern world. The expression on his face immediately makes the viewer understand that he is vigilant against the dangers of the world at large.
Cranio is an internationally recognized artist. He has exhibited around the world including at Luis Maluf Art Gallery in Sao Paulo, Art Basel in Miami, the Wall at Wynwood also in Miami, the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin, the Urban Art Fair in Paris and others. His name, Cranio, is the Portuguese word for “skull” and it is the pseudonym for him, with his name being Fabio de Oliveira Parnaíba. He was born in 1982 and grew up in Sao Paulo. He began his artistic career in 1998 by spray painting the walls of his hometown. His art then matured and now he uses a blue indigenous figure in his work to highlight issues of the day such as the environment and political corruption. Cranio has taken his place in the pantheon of modern, up to date, artists who speak of the matters that are at the forefront of today’s conversation.
